unfunded

Talent doesn't disappear when budgets do.

A collective for public health professionals in Los Angeles County.

About unfunded

Unfunded is the first and only community dedicated to keeping public health professionals connected, skilled and engaged during funding gaps in Los Angeles County. As you may know, public health is largely supported by government grants and public funding. As administrations change, the field naturally moves through periods of growth and constraint. In response to recent widespread budget cuts and the growing loss of talent across the field, unfunded was founded in 2026 by Alexus Espino to retain the expertise, lived experience, and passion that compelled so many to enter the field in the first place.Unfunded retains and engages public health professionals during periods of instability, ensuring they are prepared to mobilize when the time comes by:• Hosting IRL gatherings and conversations
• Offering tools, skill-building workshops and knowledge exchange
• Promoting job opportunities, collaborations, and partnerships
• Providing a space for independent professionals, consultants, nonprofits, hospitals and other organizations to start and continue conversations
The goal is simple:Ensure talent doesn’t disappear when budgets do.Sources:
